How Often Should You Service Your AC in Thailand?

April 10, 2026

Thailand's heat and humidity put more strain on AC units than most countries. Here is what the experts recommend for keeping your system running efficiently.

Thailand's tropical climate is tough on air conditioning systems. High humidity, dust, and near-continuous operation mean your AC works much harder than units in cooler countries.

For most homes and apartments in Bangkok, servicing every 6 months is the minimum. If you run your AC more than 8 hours a day, or if you live near a busy road, every 4 months is better.

What happens during a service visit? The technician will clean the evaporator and condenser coils, flush the drainage pipe, check refrigerant levels, inspect electrical connections, and test the system's performance. A clean coil can reduce electricity consumption by up to 15%.

Signs your AC needs attention sooner: weak airflow, warm air coming from the unit, water dripping inside the room, unusual noise, or a musty smell when you first switch it on.

Filter cleaning is something you can do yourself. Most split unit filters should be rinsed under water every 2 to 4 weeks. Let them dry fully before replacing.

Skipping maintenance does not save money. A neglected unit runs less efficiently, costs more to operate, and fails sooner. A typical service visit is a fraction of the cost of a compressor replacement.
